From Dead to Worse

From Dead to Worse by Charlaine Harris

I can't believe I'm almost done with the series! Book #8. This time Sookie gets involved with a Were war, Vamps being overthrown and a fairy grandfather. Sookie is just a tad bit selfish in this book. I don't understand why she broke it off with Quinn, especially when she has so many issues in her closet. LOL! No sex this time in the book which is okay but I was hoping she would hook up again with Eric. Sigh. Keeping my fingers crossed that happens in Book 9. All in all it was a good story and the ending was a little surprising about Hunter.

I give this book 4 stars.

Hello, Darkness

Hello, Darkness by Sandra Brown

This is the first book I read from Sandra Brown and it won't be the last!

What a great suspenseful book that I couldn't stop reading and wanted more!! The premise of the book is about a killer who "meets" with underage girls and when things don't go his way, they wind up tortured and dead. A deejay is mixed up in this killer's game and winds up getting her ex involved. What ensues is a lot of twists and turns and a whole lot of guessing and accusations until the light bulb comes on towards the end of the book and they realize the killer, hopefully before he claims his next victim. I enjoyed the storyline, not too much sex but just enough, and the twists kept me guessing the killer until the end with the reveal. The ending was cute.

I give this book four stars.

Speaking in Tongues

Speaking in Tongues by Jeffrey Deaver

What can I say but I am beginning to love Deaver's books. This one was awesome! The basic premise is a therapist kidnapping a young girl to get revenge on her lawyer father. That's all I'm going to say without giving too much information. Lots and lots of twists and surprises I did not see coming. I kept trying to guess but alas Deaver shocked and kept me wanting and guessing for more!! The end was good.

I give this book 4 stars.

The Carpenter's Lady

The Carpenter's Lady by Barbara Delinsky

I'm not normally into romance novels, but every now and then I need a break from my usual fiction. This was a nice change. The storyline was good. A writer buying a home and needing a carpenter to fix it up. Throughout the story is both of them trying to hide their past as well as their feelings for each other. But of course, you know it happens, the passion just explodes!! ha ha... At the end, it seems both get what they want in life and each other. A nice happy ending!!

I give this book 3 stars.

Angel Falls

Angel Falls by Kristin Hannah

What a great book and story. Basically the story is that a wife and mother goes to ride her horse and gets flung off the horse and hits her head when she lands. She winds up in a coma and the rest of the book is her husband trying to figure out how to wake her up and he has to bring up some skeletons from her past in order to save her life. It's a story of true love and how the bond of family can get through anything and remain strong in the bleakest of times. The ending was nice and it left me feeling all warm and fuzzy inside and appreciating what I have in life.

I give this book 4 stars.

Blue Bayou

  • Oct. 2nd, 2009 at 5:43 PM

Blue Bayou by JoAnn Ross I'm taking a break from my normal horror/vampire books and leaning towards romance. This author reminds me a lot of Nora Roberts. The story is interesting. Basically, Jack Callahan is down, drinking and has demons and secrets that keep him up at night. His ex-flame Danielle Dupree comes back into town and turns his world right side back up but not without its ups and downs. A lot of sex so it was a fast read. One part of the story towards the end surprised me so I enjoyed that part. All in all it was a good story, had good sex scenes and a nice ending. It is part of a trilogy... not sure if i'll get the other books since i read the back of the book with an excerpt from the next one and it didnt seem to pull me.

I give this book 3 stars.

All Together Dead

All Together Dead by Charlaine Harris Book 7

You would think that after reading seven books of the Sookie Stackhouse series I would start to get sick of it... (like the Alex Cross series) but no! I am loving every page of these books. The story in this book mostly takes place at the Vampire Summit where Sookie is summoned by the queen to help her read the human minds through trials and to make sure there are no others plotting against her. Once again, Quinn makes his appearance and mmm, I am very happy to read about him in this book... can't wait to see him (hopefully its Vin Diesel) when he makes his appearance on True Blood. The ending was great and I am thirsting for more in Book 8...

I give this book 4 stars.

From An Otherwise Comfortable Room

  • Aug. 28th, 2009 at 9:16 PM
From An Otherwise Comfortable Room by Roger Sakowski. I received this book for free through Members Giveaway. I'm not sure how to describe this book. The entire book is a collection of jumbled ramblings that make no sense whatsoever. I drudged and plodded my way through the book and at the end I was confused just like I was at the beginning of the book. I do enjoy poetry but this book was just a jumbled mess. Just when I thought I was understanding the story, the next paragraph would go on a tangent and I would be lost again. When trying to understand what the locals were saying in the tavern, I had to read it aloud to myself since the words were gibberish to me. I did not like this book at all and I am not giving it any stars since I did not enjoy any part of the 225 pages.

Definitely Dead

Definitely Dead by Charlaine Harris

Once again, loved the book!! This time Sookie gets more involved with Quinn.. yum.. and once again.. Sookie gets injured .. poor girl. Her cousin Hadley who was a vampire died and Sookie has to go to New Orleans to clean up her cousin's apartment. Chaos ensues no matter where Sookie is at. Couldnt wait to keep reading page after page.

I give this book four stars.

Dead as a Doornail

Dead as a Doornail by Charlaine Harris

Again.. working through the series at a fast pace. This time there's a sniper out for the shifters and weres. Sookie is worried that Jason might be pegged as the sniper and looks to figure out who the murderer is before another one gets shot including Sookie. Quinn was introduced in this book and is super excited that he'll be in the next one... I also loved the fact that Sookie didnt sleep with anyone in this book but boy was she tempted. :) Enjoyed the book immensely and starting the next one with anticipation!!

I give this book four stars.

Dead to the World

Dead to the World by Charlaine Harris

This is the fourth book in the Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire series. Once again, loved this book and flew through it with no problem. This time Bill goes to Peru on business and Sookie finds Eric with his memory wiped clean. SPOILERS!!! What ensues is a lot of violence, witches, a fairy and more Weres, Supes and Vamps, along with some romance thrown in there. Jason also goes missing. The ending was a surprise. The only thing I did not like was when Eric was saying lover... ugh i hate that term of endearment!!

I give this book 4 stars

This is the first cookbook I reviewed!! I received this book for free through LibraryThing's member giveaway program.

What a great cookbook! Already tried the baked clams and they were yummy! Can't wait to try more recipes. Love the introduction to the book and the menu ideas with each recipe.

I give this book 3 stars.

Club Dead

Club Dead by Charlaine Harris (Sookie Stackhouse Series)

Once again, I love this series! I flew through this book with no problem. This time around, Bill is acting a bit strange around Sookie and disappears. Sookie finds out his being held captive in Mississippi and with Eric and a fellow Were, she risks everything to save Bill. Poor Sookie gets injured a lot in this one and Eric and Alcide (the Were) are getting hot and bothered with Sookie, in which she doesn't seem to mind. I loved the ending and can't wait to read the fourth book.

I give this book four stars.

Living Dead in Dallas

Living Dead in Dallas by Charlaine Harris (Sookie Stackhouse Series)

So I finally got the rest of the books in the series, this is book #2. What a great book, I couldn't stop reading it, basically read it every chance I could get. This time around Sookie is being called to go to Dallas with Bill to help find a missing vampire. Chaos ensues (like it always does for Sookie) with betrayal and murder. A lot more sex in this book than the first one, but i'm not complaining. :) Some tie-ins with the TV series, but not much so far in the new season. Good ending.

I give this book four stars.

Saints in Limbo

Saints in Limbo by River Jordan

This was another book from Library Thing's Early Reviewers program. This was an interesting story. Hard to say the basic premise of the story. Velma meets a mysterious stranger who gives her a rock that lets her relive moments in the past and helps change her ways and allows her family to cope with their lives and everyone is happy at the end of the book. It took me a while to get into the story but I enjoyed it.

I give this book three stars.

Yesterday's Embers

Yesterday's Embers by Deborah Raney

I received this book through LibraryThing Early Reviewers Program. I'm not a huge fan of Christian fiction but this book was ok. I enjoyed the story about a man who lost his wife and one of his daughters. How the rest of his children and him coped with their deaths. Then he met and fell in love with Mickey not too long after the deaths. The rest of the book deals with both him and Mickey and how their rushed romance/marriage affected his kids and the way they feel towards each other. I did like the end of the book... I always like happy endings.

I give this book two and a half stars.

Black Friday

  • May. 29th, 2009 at 10:10 PM
Black Friday by James Patterson

Eh.... Probably one of the most boring Patterson books I have read to date. Wasn't too impressed with the storyline and was confused by a lot of the Wall Street jargon. The only interesting parts was when Hudson had the flashback to Vietnam and I was surprised to see who was Francois Monserrat. I was very surprised I was able to finish the book. The ending was so-so, seemed a little rushed.

I give this book two stars only because i was couldn't guess who Monserrat was.

Twilight

  • May. 9th, 2009 at 12:45 PM
Twilight by Stephenie Meyer

I made the mistake of watching the movie first before reading the book. I will never ever do that again. The story is good, very similar to the movie. The thing I enjoy about the book is that its a different twist of vampires. They can go out in the sunlight and glisten when the sun hits them, they never sleep, no coffins. The only thing I do not like is that the vampires have no fangs or no mention of fangs in the book. But all in all I enjoyed reading it and cannot wait to start the next book, New Moon. Yes I will read that before the I watch the movie. :)

I give this book three stars.

The Last Bridge

  • May. 2nd, 2009 at 9:15 PM
The Last Bridge by Teri Coyne

This was from Early Reviewers. The premise of this book is how the Cat, the main character, copes with her life after being abused by her father throughout her childhood. I enjoyed the book immensely. The story jumped back and forth between chapters to when Cat was growing up and to present day. It's amazing how Cat self-destructed after she ran away and finally at the end of the book realized the people she had in her life that she loved and "woken up" from a ten year drunken state. A few surprises in the book and the ending was great. This the author's first book and look forward to more of her work in the future.

I give this book four stars.

I Know This Much Is True

  • Apr. 25th, 2009 at 5:49 PM
I Know This Much Is True by Wally Lamb

One of my friends lent me this book and when I received it and noticed it was over 900 pages, I was terrified and thought it would take me forever to read it... However, I couldnt be more wrong. This is one of the best books I have read in quite a while. Every page in this heavy book was interesting and I couldn't wait to read more. Its a story about twins where one of them has schizophrenia and how the other twin has to deal with his brother's sickness as well as his anger issues. The story branches out from there to include Dominick's friends, family and the life story of Dominick's grandfather. It was also great to learn about how Dominick and Thomas grew up with an abusive step father and when Thomas started getting sick. There were a few surprises in the book which always make me happy and the recap ending was great.

I give this book five stars.
